The Ducks announced Wednesday that in an effort to raise funds and awareness for cancers affecting men, 13 of their players will grow mustaches in honor of “Movember.” Ducks right wing George Parros, who has gained notoriety for his signature mustache during his tenure in the NHL, is leading the charge during the 30-day mustache-growing movement in November. Parros will “start from scratch” by shaving and re-growing his moustache.
“My teammates and I are excited to join this great cause,” Parros said. “It’s a fun way to bring awareness to cancers affecting men. I look forward to seeing what kind of ‘staches our team can produce.”
Movember is an annual charity event during the month of November where men grow a moustache while raising funds and awareness for men’s health issues.
Brodeur Out but only for a while
by Perdy on Nov.04, 2010, under Lesiones
He’s already trying to win games without star winger Zach Parise, so when Martin Brodeur left Wednesday’s game with an injury, Devils coach John MacLean couldn’t help but think the worse. Because really, it’s been that kind of year for New Jersey.
“You just hope that it’s nothing serious,” MacLean said.
Brodeur left the game in Chicago because of a bruised elbow, replaced by backup Johan Hedberg in the second period. But for once, the news was good for the Devils.
X-rays were negative and Brodeur hasn’t ruled out starting New Jersey’s next game when the Devils face the Rangers on Friday.
“It’s not like it was pulled or torn or anything just banged it,” Brodeur said. “From past experience, little bruises like that (or) big bruises like it, it usually takes me a couple daysŠ we’ll see how it reacts.”
If Brodeur recovers quickly, the injury could end up working in New Jersey’s favor. It gave Johan Hedberg a chance to get some work, and the Devils backup goalie quickly made two key saves to preserve the lead and ultimately guided New Jersey to a 5-3 win over the reigning Stanley Cup champions.
Hedberg hadn’t played since getting pulled after allowing four goals to the Sabres on Oct. 23.
He was sharp in helping the Devils win a big one on Wednesday night.
“I thought Heddy played great tonight. I thought he came in and did a really nice job,” MacLean said.
